On Tuesday, 23 May 2023, and for three working days, the MENAFATF 36th Plenary Meeting was held in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. The meeting is headed by Mr. Mohamed-Lemine DHEHBY, MENAFATF President, Governor of the Mauritanian Central Bank, Chairman of the Mauritanian FIU. The meeting was attended by the heads of delegations, AML\CFT experts from member countries in addition to experts from the observer countries and the concerned authorities in AML\CFT \CPF matters, as the FATF, UN, IMF and Egmont Group.

These meetings considered as chance an opportunity for the experts to enhance and consolidate regional and international efforts of the MENAFATF for the purpose of AML\CFT/CPF, as well as an opportunity to safeguard economic, social and political systems from the risks of such crimes. The meetings will discuss number of MERs that will measure level of compliance of member countries with international AML\CFT standards as well as their effectiveness. The meetings discussion will discuss EFURs to a number of countries and the taken efforts and actions taken by each country to address the shortcomings mentioned therein.

The plenary will also discuss the o technical assistance and training areas such as workshops and training programs to tackle the current works on the regional risks assessment on ML/TF as well as the stages of the typologies report on ML\TF through legal persons and legal arrangements in the MENA region, and other projects which concern the  interest of o member countries.

It is worth noting that the Plenary currently held, is preceded by such Working Groups Meetings during the period of 20-22 May 2023 in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. Those Meetings included MEWG, TATWG, FIUs Forum, Risk Committee, and OFTF meetings, and the reports of these working groups will be presented to take the necessary decisions thereupon.
